Gamewrote Predicts the Game Awards 2023

UPDATE: Went 50% (9 right, 9 wrong) with the predictions, you’ll find the actual winner listed with each category as you read along.

It’s that time again!!! The Game Awards are back for the 10th show live later today, brought to us by the man, the myth, the legend, Geoff Keighley. Coverage of the show starts with the preshow at 4:30pm PT (7:30pm ET), then the main show kicks off. There tends to be some great content during the preshow every year though, so definitely worth watching from the start if you have the ability to do so. Geoff and his team do a phenomenal job every year with this award show, and tend to get some great world premieres for the show.

Below are the official channels to view the show on, and there are typically many other channels/streamers that will cast it as well.

Now on to the predictions and full disclosure, I have not played every game nominated, but I am also not saying what I would pick for the categories, but rather what I feel is most likely to win. There are also a handful of categories I am skipping all together, because I have no idea on them, so sticking primarily to the game related categories.

Feel free to comment on what you feel will win or should have won, chime in on what you hope gets announced or what your highlights were depending on when you find your way here. And in the words of Trending Gamer himself:

“Thank you for making games…We would not be the people we are today if it wasn’t for videogames. So thank you each and every one of you who makes videogames, thank you for your art and know that we are forever in your debt.”

Greg Miller’s Acceptance Speech Trending Gamer December 3rd, 2015

If your favorite game doesn’t win, reach out to the dev team anyways and tell them how much you enjoyed their game, tag some members of the team if you know their handles, let them know their hard work is appreciated.

GameWrote Predicts the Game Awards 2022

While time has not permitted me to post nearly as much as I would like on here for quite some time, figured it would be a nice quick post to predict The Game Awards 2022. Predictions

  • Fairly good look at whatever the next/new Silent Hill game is

  • New Kojima game, probably XBOX exclusive
  • Gameplay trailer for Spiderman sequel
  • Trailer for Wolverine game, probably not gameplay
  • Grounded update maybe a bit of a roadmap
  • Ghosts Of Tsushima sequel teaser
  • The Legend Of Zelda trailer
  • At least one new Marvel Studio property announced
  • Assassins Creed update
  • BioShock update

Wishlist

  • Next Elders Scrolls title teaser with tentative release window
  • Sunset Overdrive for PS5 and announcement of sequel
  • The Last Of Us multiplayer game release date, beta info, and trailer
  • Infamous remake or potentially a new title from a different PS Studio
  • Animal Crossing Update, DLC, something for the game/series
  • Syphon Filter is back!!! Alright this won’t happen, but I can always dream

I genuinely feel like this year’s show will be a lot bigger on the announcements and reveals, the past few years were rough with all the reasonable Covid issues, studios overhauling workloads and schedules to adapt to work from home and remote/hybrid roles. But it feels like the industry is turning the corner over the past few months and we will finally start to see the new/next generation take off. These first few years have been underwhelming to a large degree and next year should be the shift needed to push the next gen consoles to feel like there is actual separation from the PS4/XBOXone generation.

The Game Awards will be streaming Live on Thursday, December 8th at 4:30PM PST.
